ABOUT ME

Featured Review

Hi there! Welcome to my blog. If you know me (and let’s be honest, at this point in this blog’s life, you probably do), you know that I am in love with television. As an art form and as an endless source of entertainment, it is the thing I am most passionate about. Basically: I have opinions. And I’ve decided to share them here.

Ever since I can remember I’ve been obsessed with TV. On long family road trips, when I asked how much longer to our destination, my parents would respond with a unique unit of measurement: “We’re only two episodes of Full House away from Grandma’s house now!” My child-sized brain couldn’t quite grasp the abstract notion of an hour, but I sure as heck knew how long my favourite show lasted. I also have a pretty good record with recommendations. I did get my 30-year-old male Brazilian friend hooked on Grace & Frankie, after all. So keep an open mind, folks! This might be fun.

If by chance you don’t know me, here’s what you need to know: I love TV so much I actually went to school to study (writing) it. After an undergrad in English lit and a 4-year detour into book publishing, I decided it was finally time to throw caution (and thousands of dollars) to the wind and enrol in film school. It was a crazy, intense, amazing year. I learned so much and was inspired daily by my teachers and classmates – it was an experience I’ll never forget. And now, as I try to figure out how to actually get on the writing staff of a CW show – my dream gig! – I’m working as a receptionist/scripted development assistant at a television production company… and writing this blog.

Many television-focused blogs offer episodic reviews, which is great (I love TV criticism almost as much as I love actual TV shows) but a time commitment I just can’t make. Instead, I’m going to dedicate this space to freeform essays on my favourite series – new and old – and why I think they are worth watching and/or rewatching. I will try to cover a variety of shows, and hopefully you’ll find something that piques your interest – maybe even something you never would have thought you’d like.

Now, I try to watch at least one episode of as many new shows as possible, because I never know what might unexpectedly catch my fancy. And I like to think that my tastes encompass all genres (except horror – no disrespect, it’s just not my thing; the only “horror” series I ever watched on a weekly basis was Hannibal). However, in this era of peak TV, it’s impossible to watch everything. Which is why I am always open to recommendations. I’m also open to debate, but please keep it friendly, polite, constructive, etc.

Okay, here we go. Thanks for reading!
